BAGGIO IMPROV ONE (19.03.2022)

Initially the solo project of London based musician Ben Wyborn, indie band Baggio have recently been performing their heartfelt Pavement-esque songs as a full live band. Currently in the process of recording a new album, Ben has released a spacious improvised session; meandering guitars and vocals that drift through melancholic refrains, its a beautiful listen and an interesting meditation on the creative process. Ben explains “So much of being a songwriter - for me anyway - is being sat on the sofa aimlessly noodling around till something good comes out. Whenever I visit home I sit on my Dad’s sofa and pluck away on one of his guitars whilst watching tele and he often tells me I should record what I’m doing and release it; so it was in part influenced by that. I’ve always been really fascinated by other peoples creatives processes and wish more artists would share works in progress and things like this. I think there’s something really interesting in hearing unfinished, unwritten songs full of bum notes. Maybe bits of this will one day develop in to full Baggio songs but maybe they won’t. It’s very nice and kinda freeing to come up with a 60 second piece of music and not feel the pressure to form that into a song or record it properly or anything.” (photo by Jake Ollett) -Toby Evans-Jesra
